OMNIFACTORY AT THE ADVANCED MANUFACTURING BUILDING

Located on the University of Nottingham’s Jubilee Campus, the Advanced Manufacturing Building (AMB) has been a cornerstone of innovation since its opening in 2018. Purpose-built to support cutting-edge research and industrial collaboration, the AMB is home to some of the UK’s most advanced technologies in manufacturing, including metrology, precision engineering, additive manufacturing, and composites.

As the main base for Omnifactory, the AMB provides the physical infrastructure that underpins our mission: accelerating the adoption of digitally integrated, flexible and autonomous production systems across UK industry.

The building not only symbolises the University of Nottingham’s deep commitment to research excellence and industrial partnership, it also plays a vital role in strengthening the region’s high-value manufacturing sector. Through its collaborative environment, the AMB has helped attract national investment, enabled cutting-edge innovation and created high-skilled jobs in emerging technology fields.

The AMB represents a unique environment for turning advanced manufacturing concepts into practical, real-world solutions.

360° TOUR OF OMNIFACTORY

Our 360° tour gives you the chance to explore the Omnifactory from wherever you are. Navigate the facility and take a look at the Control Centre where people, machines and data come together to create a reconfigurable manufacturing environment.

We are more that just a workspace, we are a testbed for new ideas, where technologies like digital twins, intelligent automation and advanced data systems are integrated into real-world production scenarios.

Omnifactory is designed to evolve and adapt, demonstrating the kind of reconfigurable systems that will define the factories of the future.

If you’d like to go beyond the screen and see it in action, we’d be delighted to welcome you in person.

OMNIFACTORY SATELLITE FACILITY

We also operate a dedicated satellite facility at the university's Zero Carbon Innovation Centre that extends our “connected factories” environment beyond the main Advanced Manufacturing Building. Here, we demonstrate how advanced digital manufacturing methods can be applied across multiple sites through a model-based systems engineering (MBSE) approach, ensuring a single source of truth for all data and processes.

The ZCIC cells are designed to showcase real-world applications of this approach, from linking production assets across geographically separated facilities, to digitally connecting supply chains for greater resilience, efficiency, and sustainability.

OMNIFACTORY MINI

Whilst the main Omnifactory facility is designed for large-scale structures, we also operate Omnifactory Mini, a dedicated demonstrator for smaller products.

It supports assemblies up to 4kg in weight and 500mm in x, y, z dimensions, using lower-cost robotic and automation technologies.

Typical use cases include the assembly of battery packs for aerospace applications and gloveboxes for automotive systems.

PRECISION MANUFACTURING CENTRE

The Precision Manufacturing Centre (PMC) is a high-precision machining and manufacturing workshop, delivering high-value, ultra-accurate components for both external clients and internal research projects.

Established in 2003 and based in the University of Nottingham’s Advanced Manufacturing Building, the PMC operates as an independent centre but works in close collaboration with the Omnifactory team. Together, they combine digital engineering, specialist manufacturing capability and hands-on expertise to support the development and demonstration of next-generation manufacturing systems.

The centre offers a complete range of design, development and production services that include component manufacture, high-precision assembly, metrology and small-batch prototyping, all delivered with exceptional accuracy and quality.

One example of our collaboration is the reconfigurable Omnifactory flooring system, that enables assets to be repositioned anywhere across the 284 m² facility with 1 mm accuracy. The floor was designed in-house and incorporates ultra-precise mounting points and covers manufactured by the PMC’s skilled technicians.
